About Me

My photo
Gail Frazier
Graduated in 1982 from Weatherford High School in Weatherford, OK. Attended Southwestern Oklahoma State University. Graduated in 1988 with a BS in Management and Finance. I am friendly to those who are genuine people, and I am a self proclaimed SUPERMOM! I am a happily married mother of 3 wonderful sons. I spend most of my time doing something with my family. School activities, sports events, and misc. I volunteer quite a bit for the soccer club, baseball club and was the president of PTO for 2 years. When I am not running around, I enjoy spending time with friends and family. Trying to enjoy all the great moments in this amazing adventure we call life! I was diagnosed with breast cancer on 10/03/2011. I had a bilateral mastectomy on 12/09/2011 and have since gone through a long period of reconstruction, but I have been cancer free since then! I do my best to raise awareness for early detection of breast cancer. Get a mammogram! I also work very hard to raise awareness and funds for Cystic Fibrosis, which my son Trevor was diagnosed with at birth. I have even done some local television spots! I am currently substitute teaching for the Lathrop R2 School District.

Tristan Jon

Tristan Jon
Tristan, my oldest was born as an adult, I think. He is mature beyond his years, and not only is he smart as a whip, (honor roll student) but he is very social, a friend to everyone and very much into sports. He plays football, basketball, soccer, and his favorite sport is baseball. His nickname is "Noodle"! He is in the 9th grade this year. Tristan was sweat tested for CF after Trevor's diagnosis, but the test came back negative. We have not had him DNA tested to see if he is a carrier or not.

Trevor Marc

My second amazing young man is Trevor. Affectionately known as "Trev of Edge". Trevor is extra special because he was born with Cystic Fibrosis. It is a genetic disease that affects his lungs and digestive system. He has the double delta F508 mutation. He is a real trooper though. Even though he has been through two major surgeries, you would never know there is any problem with him. He is very smart (honor roll student) and very active, he plays sports, loves to swim, loves video games and always wants to spend time with his friends. He is in the 7th grade.

Trey Mathu

Trey Mathu
My last little man is Trey. He is full of spirit and is constantly trying to keep up with his older brothers. He is very athletic! He is in fourth grade. He is very bright! He loves soccer, baseball, football, basketball, riding his bike and playing outside, even when it is freezing!!! BRRR. We had Trey's blood DNA tested at birth for CF. He is only a carrier of the disease.

Cystic Fibrosis is an inherited chronic disease that affects the lungs and digestive system of about 30,000 children and adults in the United States (70,000 worldwide). A defective gene and its protein product cause the body to produce unusually thick, sticky mucus that: clogs the lungs and leads to life-threatening lung infections; and obstructs the pancreas and stops natural enzymes from helping the body break down and absorb food. The median age survival rate for someone with CF is only 32 years old. To have cystic fibrosis, a person must inherit two copies of the defective CF gene—one copy from each parent. If both parents are carriers of the CF gene (i.e., they each have one copy of the defective gene, but do not have the disease themselves), their child will have a 25% chance of inheriting both defective copies and having cystic fibrosis, a 50% chance of inheriting one defective copy and being a carrier, and a 25% chance of not having CF or carrying the gene. 10 million Americans are symptomless carriers of this defective gene. Although current therapies, and medicines have proven somewhat successful...we continue to lose precious lives to CF everyday. There is currently no cure for Cystic Fibrosis.

With Trevor at Children's Mercy NICU in July 2001

With Trevor at Children's Mercy NICU in July 2001
Trevor was diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis shortly after he was born in July of 2001. He was born with a bowel blockage (meconium ileus) which required immediate surgery. He had another surgery at 3 months old to correct the ileostomy. He contracted RSV at 5 months old and the Pseudomonas bacteria as a baby as well. Although he had a very rough start....spending his first 28 days in the NICU at Children's Mercy Hospital....he has been quite healthy. He has never tested positive for Pseudomonas again. He has only had two MSSA bacterial infections in the past ten years and has not been hospitalized since he was 3 months old. He is rarely sick which is definately not the norm for kids with Cystic Fibrosis. He does have frequent and sometimes severe stomach aches because of the mucus that builds up in his digestive system. Right after Trevor was born we organized a walk team to participate in the Great Strides walks to raise money for a cure for CF. Our team, Trevor's Troopers has raised over $30,000.00 to fund vital research necessary to find a cure for this disease. Trevor takes approximately 20 pills a day in order to digest his food properly, maintain weight and keep his lungs healthy. He spends at least 30 minutes a day on airway clearance......using his vest, and nebulizer. He is a fantastic kid and deserves a bright future without Cystic Fibrosis. Please help us fund a cure for this disease. You can help Trevor and thousands of others make CF stand for CURE FOUND!! Please donate by clicking on the box below. Thanks so much!!!

Trevor doing his vest and nebulizer treatment
Trevor is holding the cup....not full of a drink to enjoy, but to cough up, and spit out the thick sticky mucus that could cause him life threatening lung infections. Airway clearance is a big part of staying healthy with Cystic Fibrosis. The vest is just one way of doing this. Chronic lung infections can eventually damage the lungs permanently. You can't breathe with damaged lungs!

Pulmonary Funtion Test

On October 3rd of 2011, I was diagnosed with breast cancer. I originally went for a routine mammogram. They found microcalcifications on my right breast. I went back for a diagnostic mammogram and from that, they sent me to have a biopsy. I ended up with 2 stereotactic biopsies on the right breast and one MRI guided biopsy on the left breast. NOT FUN to say the least. Well, after many visits to the KU Cancer Center, they determined that I had DCIS ( Ductal Carcinoma In Situ) The first stage of breast cancer. I was shocked to say the least, but I managed somehow to make sense of it all and knew that I had to be here for my kids. I chose to have a bilateral mastectomy on December 9th 2011. I did not want to worry about breast cancer ever again. They found 3 spots of cancer in my right breast. They did NOT find any cancer in my lymph nodes! This means that the type of breast cancer I had was non-invasive. However, the nuclear grade was 3+ which indicates it was an agressive, fast growing cancer, so if I had not had the mammogram when I did, it could have been a lot worse. I have since gone through a long period of reconstruction which required another surgery. So my advice for all women out there is: TAKE CARE OF YOURSELVES AND GET MAMMOGRAMS REGULARLY. I would not have found this cancer without it. I had no lumps. Early detection is the key to survival!
